Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center

Today we went to the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. This was a great little place, that also has a birds-of-prey area.  All the animals living in this center could not survive in the wild or would have been euthanized due to being aggressive around humans. The enclosures are open and fairly spacious. We saw lots of activity in the bears area, especially as they were wrestling and playing after they finished turning rocks over to forage for their food. The care takers hide the bear food under rocks and they even stock the river in the enclosure with live trout for the bears to naturally catch and eat.

Later we went to Quake Lake. A fascinating look at a tragic event in history.  On August 17, 1959, one of the most powerful earthquakes (7.5 on the Richter scale)
struck the Madison River Canyon, triggering a massive landslide that helped create Quake Lake. You can see the pine trees that were on solid ground are now deep in the lake.

We ended the day very nicely, meeting a couple of new friends.  We noticed a coach that was a lot like ours and stopped by to say hello. The RV belonged Randy and Beverly, two of the nicest people we've ever met. They are also going to the Entegra SummerFest at Big Sky on Saturday.
